As we rode up the valley a rocksh jumped from the alder bushes and dashed into its words, I had fleeting glimpses of it turn its head but could just three times but there was little chance of suc- cess. The old fellow seemed quite disturbed and learned afterward that their method is to jump from the worst, kneel down and wait till the animal stops & look back. Perhaps it won't hurt if it does, they have a standing shot. I rather believe this method is a good one for there certainly better chance of killing a rocksh when it is jumping than the bushes appearing for only a fraction of a second between or above the alders. At dark we returned to camp without having seen more game, W. was fussing with the fire and the potatoes were done so we had bath, coffee & a cigarette before turned in. This must
