usual in a country where the season is short & wet. We were told in Meya that there were great quantities of storks. But besides all the old woods but I have not seen a sign of a berry of any kind since we left there. This water valley has quite a colony of youngs scattered along it & numerous herds of fat tailed sheep & goats (Albat'a sheep [?]) Also a good many tame goats & yak cows. The pure blood yaks can be distinguished by their very lankly tails. The long hair starts from the very root while with the cow, the upper half of the tail is shorthaired & the lower half bushy. The pure blood animals seem generally to be coal black sometimes with white tails & with a white band on the forehead [back to the ears]. Sometimes also they are white & the ears neck are often black but or brindled. They grunt exactly like a pig, only louder & seem tame enough. They are used a good deal for pulling carts both here & in Meya. After a certain amt. of wood cutting as going on it seems to be done fairly well as only those trees are felled which are really wanted for fuel, nothing like thrungling where the cutting is to clear the land for farming. We make two beautiful camps nearby four the last one about 3 mm
