3 No. 1 Set & Gray whale - Jan 8, 1912 Chesapeake Ground color of body very dark slate; almost black. Tawm bay of body from nubra to flukes [illegible] covered with longitudinal bands of light gray along and alieecial in shape- also patches & blotches of white - many fine & light lewis on look making it look decidedly grayish. Head has much whiter about snout and on upper lips just above "valem gums" - white also seen in rostrum for considerable distance- [illegible] from a low hump to flukes covered much like a Hem stock but not quite so strongly - the "humps" is well marked and about two or three as [illegible] inches high - The two throat creases begin 6 & cent from tip of lower jaws - and ends of creases are 15 cent apart. Flippers dark slate along with both margins and tips white, the light color running far up on either sea- fase of fins Flukes also dark slate with many white dashes and white andles lets close on Hem back whic are evidently covered by parasites arrifeds - Many barnacles visible in back & ends of flippers, flipper
