15 not, Gray Whale, ♀, Jan. off Ulleungo, Korea A very dark whale. On the forehead there are only a few circled scars, no gray markings – along the dorsal ridge there is a little white ( not scars) from a few forward almost plain black at sides & back. Breast throat & belly plain except on belly a large, light gray, irregular light gray patch, and on the left side of the throat just above its gurnace there are a few large stripes of white which seem to be scars. Fin Plain black with few white circles – below is worked with white in a way to give a marbled appearance; they are also many circles of white. Balou Furrows Tumor Besides all yellowish tint. Two both 170 cent. in length. On its ventral ridge halfway between anus and flukes was a large bunch which when cut into proved to be a hollow tumor filled with white pus. The crevulations on the dorsal ridge are indistinct there being only four well marked. Then are a great many barnacles deeply embedded in the forehead. (see other side)
