52 Short B.C. No. 5 Humback sex ? May 27-08 Color Back sides tips head & belly black - much white on throat & breast to insertion of pectorals though in the median area; the white here is mostly in streaks & splashes. Each halves of the mandible, chiefly toward the tip is, is practically covered with small white circles, which take every kind of pattern - some overlapping, some heavy on one side & light on other, etc., etc. These circles are smaller than those on any of the other whales - many circles extend on to the chin & some on the breast - scattering faint white circles on sides of pe- duncle from arms back to flippers - fine white circles on sides of back just above pectorals - The fins are well edged with white - From the eye to cleat, insertion of pectoral are many streaks & splashes of white - The burles or bunches on the right side of top of head seems to have been injured (it tips looks as if they had been rubbed off) & are deep yellow. - bunches on left side of head are black (healthily) Rory of mouth flesh colored - the
