I completed arrangements with Dring for my trip to the station and we'll leave to- -morrow night, May 16, on the ship 'Tee' for Sachart, Thursday Sound, where the whaling station is located. Today after arranging for the shipment of two barrels of plaster, excelsior, seedling, etc. I took a short walk thru Victoria Park (or Brecon Hill Park) to collect ants for Dr. Wheeler. The park is one of the most beautiful places in which I ever have been! A small artificial lake crossed by an arched stone bridge occupies one end, and this is surrounded by trees of all sorts + flowering shrubs in profusion. The Park being one of its many points I follow- walked toward Brecon Hill, and sud- devay came out upon a sort of heath covered with masses of bushes in full bloom. These were the English Broom & most beautiful plant they are! The flowers look something like large sweet peas, and of one of the most intense yellow. From the top of Brecon Hill, looking out over the straits of Juan del Friesa toward the blue mountains of the Olympies, their snow covered caps glistening in the moon.
