Most of these 88 plates are or streaked white only at the very base + for but a degree extent, however others are some 15- or 20 which are streaked with bands of white for 1/3 of their whole length of the plate - In this row of balaoen there beemed to be no uniformity about the position of the streaked plates aside from the fact that they were all on the antennis one half. A plate which was heavily streaked might be followed by one without any visible markings, But in most cases the streaked plates were pretty well bunched - All the streaks were on the inner (bridge bearing) side of the plate, In this place the leisters were very white indeed - all but whiter than any other chare exam- nined. On a whale previously examined (Whales No 13) out of 321 plates, 24 were streaked with white in varying degrees, but usually very little + always on the inner side + close to the bases of the plates.
