Sprig Junceilla, Regulus Calen, Dend Pina Middlesex Co., Mass. 88 1875. Sunday Apr. 11 Clear and warm. This 60° at noon. After breakfast walking out in the garden was much surprised to hear a Sprig Junceilla trilling his beautiful cold notes from our brush pile. Heard also the first full cry of the junco finch. In P.M. drove up to see Mr. Maynard and saw another S. Junceilla at his place. He saw Dend Pina [a S singing] this P.M. and had a Sprig Regulus Calendula on the 4th mist. A single Mdl. Galastrie was shot by J.Warm at West Newton on the Apr. 12 Cloudy with chill & wind. Off after dinner striking up through the Meadows. In the "Backyard meadow" started a Sprig which Shot [pointed] handsomely and killed him at the second shot. It was the same bird that he left there Sot. and the fifth corner where he lay was all marked up with his markings. Continuing on up to the Pine Swamp found then a very large flock of musties and shot on a S. At the report of the gun two hours (N.Gardner) started from the James. I afterwards put out them once but they came very shy and I did not get a shot: Their after devotion to this old haunt is most remarkable. Now I also shot a fine Sprig Dend.
