Chatham Mass. Symphonia semipalmata - Zenaida Carolina 328 1876. Monday May 15 Cloudy with E. wind. Left Boston by the 8 A.M. train for Chatham when I arrived at 2 P.M. After changing my things went out on the marsh with Mr. H. B. Brown of Boston whom I found stopping at Lou's. We shot about twenty geese most of them Semicellata Saw Les. Semipalmata in numbers, one flock of Coturnix melancolica and a single Zenaida Carolinae. Mr. J. W. Emerson, a young man from Newton Mass also stopping at the house brought in a fine & Symphonia semipalmata. The gunner told me that this bird used to breed abundantly on Monomoy island. Tuesday May 16 Clear but with cold S. & E. wind. Started off immediately after breakfast rowing down to Harding beach when we tried a sail boat and started off for water fowl. Sailed down to the S. end of Monomoy is without seeing anything remarkable excepting a few fluttering flock of cost. Bounding the point are placed a sand bar covered with Lorns agutatus and among them about 20 Sterna frontata. Keeping outside we found an immense bird of costs lying off the light house close in to the beach and chasing them about for some time we shot three two O. Am. 4 on O. frissicellata.
