Middley Co., Mass. at this season a theory that they run & feed all our the thicket [illegible] which they can found and I was quite firmly impresed with that idea to day as these dogs seemed to find scent veryshus in their coves when we started birds and in no plan did we find droppings concen- trated to that extent which they can when the cock is resident [illegible] the locality, Sars Spizella monticola. in numbers, for the first time, Oct. 16 Clear and rather warm. Started in my buggy at 9 A.M. with H. Gordon and drove up to the Warren run. Beat for two or three hours but saw nothing except thin or four grouse, and find only one shot the whole morning. Saw a single Aegithus vinacia and sural Bird, Palmarums which by the way I noticed for the first time yesterday at Concord when several small flocks were observed. Got back to the home at about 2 P.M. E. Ingerson got books last night. Saw about 200 Motthunder and shot 4. Oct. 17 Clear and warm with S. wind. Started for the Warren run at 8 A.M. taking Dot. Hunted a little & put up thin grouse but spent most of my time collecting, Got 7 D. Palmarum 1 Virio Potterius and 2 Jordus Jpallicis. Saw also Panue Am. D. coronata (not many) Regulus
