Marstons Mills - 1875 Drail Shooting the scent and roaded [illegible] beautifully till he came to the birds which were finding out in the middle of the field. Prim at the same moment came up from the opposite side and [illegible] taking the scent of the boy from this wind, drew up magnificently till near the motionless pettel when both stood as immovable as if carved in stone. The [illegible] quick pure motions of both dogs in finding the birds, and their exceptionally fine attitudes as they stood, joined to the surpassing beauty of the scene as it lay bathed infull, rich quit of a glorious Oct. sunset, made the whole occurrence one to be remembred and I doubt not that my companin as well as myself would have been glad could it have been prolonged a few minutes longer, but a slight advance on the part of the point bird, the spell and the whirring bray the next instant filled the air. Two birds fell to an four barrels. Following them into the corn we found only one bird which went off unshot at. I killed two crow at this place and started for the home fairly exhausted by any days work although the tramp had not been a very severe one. Went to bed feeling quite unwell.
