Oct. 14 Cold and another lovely day. Took
the 2.15 train to Concord will leave
my hand bag at the hotel. Started
for Moo's Pond when I intended
to lie for ducks. Arrived at the
Pond I found the alder swamp
below the dam fairly alive with
birds and spent some time
watching them. A characteristic little
automated company was there, composed
principally of white throated Sparrows
and yellow bunps with a fair
sprinkling of D. Palmacrum and
a few Hermit Thrushes. A low muntin
rupted rustling in the brush below
me next caught my attention
and listening intently I heard
the repressed note of a quail. Quickly
