208 MASS. (Middlesex Co.) 1875. Oct. 9 C. Stellaris, B. Cessinii, Arthus ludovic, Trip to Concord meadows Oct 9-1875 Clear still and a most lovely autumn day. Rose early and meeting John Nesbitt by appointment took the 7.10 train on the Bowell road for N. Bedford when we got off and struck out once for the Great meadows. Found the water altogether too high and almost despair'd of seeing any birds but finally after wading across the meadow started from home along the N edge and I bagged one of them. I find only two shots, both long ones but killed two rails (P. Bar) both of which shot pointed. From here struck on to Dam meadow when we started then birds and killed them all. Two of them lost were wild from the edge of a pond of rain water in a ploughed field, and with them got up a pair of Yrisa maculata which got off unshot at. Both the snipe dropped in tall grew and gave us good shots and one of them shot pointed very handsomely. When meadows were in prime condition and we should have found more birds. On the Great meadows saw large numbers of Arthus ludovic, and an osprey also a marsh wren which I took to B.C. Stains. Taking the 1 P.M. train home we got off at Spy pond and walked down across the meadows. Did not start any birds but I shot a few fall Spermium of C. Stellaris and 2 Brachyptus Cessinii. The latter was flushed by N. and came flying down on me. Scut. fungusius abundant everywhere. N.B. Snipe 2, rail 2, J.V. Sifted
