She was very tame and chipful at one in exactly the same tone as an oriole bird, and so anxiously that I more than half suspected she had a nest somewhere in the vicinity; upon direction I found the ovaries but slightly enlarged, little more so in fact than in a fall bird. Heard several trills of both species and shall make another effort for this nests. After dinner had my horse harnessed and drove up to Wansley when I found my combination knife which I lost a week ago. Also visited a nest in a yellow pine which I climbed to on the 3rd inst (p.189) and found empty. To my great delight I found a J D. visor sitting upon it, and again ascending discovered that it contained a beautiful set of 4 fresh eags and one of N. pecoris. The J flew off before I got half way up the tree and beyond an occasional chip and a few peeps at one now and then from a neighboring red cedar, she joined but with anxiety. The nest was saddled upon a horizontal limb about 6 ft. from the main trunk, 20 from the ground and perhaps 3/4 way up as the tree grew. Continuing on I visited five nests of D. Penni. discovered at different times and most of them in the town of Goff's, found two looked on deserted with one egg, a fourth with four and the fifth with five eggs. Also found
