Saw a flock of thrush [illegible] they acted in their usual manner. Heard for the first time distinctly Cinclus leucopterus flying overhead. Aug. 26 Cloudy most of the day. Shot the forenoon in shooting the birds shot yesterday. After dinner started out North S & B taking the Stony road. Found birds very scarce indeed the woods seemed almost completely deserted. I shot then Scott fluvigrinus (g. y.) a very young nest of Junco hyemalis & a nest Geothlypis trichas. Returning S. & J took a paddle up C. Rim in the skiff but saw nothing of note. I knocked down an old cock partridge to Shots point flushing him from the ferns over the path. Also shot a kingfisher as he flew by the boat: it proved a very young bird & with four or five others now keeping up a continuous rattling in a new thicket on them to add.
