Rye Beach, N. H. 1871 August. the sea over the marsh and in P.M., a fair pair of Anct Ch. atricilla, Dolichonyx orizivious has been flying in large flocks, for the last two or three day. This fall plumage is now complete, saw several feathering Ac. Bonapartei. Aug. 11. Clear with light wind from the S. East. A small flight of G. flavipes from 7 to 11 A.M. perhaps a half dozen small flocks passing through. Three G. melanoleucos came in land she killed a Semipetrius semiclimata and a Mac gribens both immature birds; the former came in to the drops without any hesitation. Two Mac himantopus ow immature, came over the marsh and were both shot. They resembled G. flavipes so close on the wing, that we took them for that bird: this note was however a trifle hasty. Aug. 12 Clear with S. East wind a warm. Two or three flocks of G. flavipes flew about morning and several more in the afternoon. Saw several flocks of Peeps and Pigs sun, but no flight of other birds. Over the beach saw a large flock of Cal. arenaia and quite a number of Ars. principalis. On the morning shot the first Dus. divors and saw a G. melanoleucus in a flock of the other species. Dolichonyx orizivious can grow passing continually in enormous flocks. Aug. 13.
