July 7 - 1874 Mustekit On the way back to the boat Mr Warren & Mrs Davis who had been away thus for four or five days, I was introduced. They had killed at at a coker gulls & 2 owl (B. Corvini) I had taken & 10 eggs of the former. They showed me a nest of Crows and built in a bush not higher than 4 ft. nor saw 3 young Crows which they said had just left it. I first & S. Paradina a parrot, S. Furundo with the bill mad of S. Paradina; it may prove a hybrid. Also took a pair of Az. Melodous & another nest now than 3 day old. Then down to Mantucket after a very strong wind catching a plaice on our drift & killing a Petrel (Ap. ?). The Mantuckites call Az. melodous "pebblo" & the terns "tieces" They say "Pharwatus" tend to breed abundantly on Mustekit & that that Island with the Grandly & Smith's Islands were formerly covered a forest Mantucket, Capt Dunham also told me that while cod fishing 35 miles off Gnet point last week he saw shoals of two flens in great abundance.
