I find it very hard to remove good specimens as the blood flows profusely from the slightest wound & stains the feathers beyond remedy. All of the S. antillarum were in full one or two had already laid at least part of their eggs. July 5 My birthday & a dismal one, with driving fire & heavy cloudiness. Worked up forest of the birds shot yesterday. Last evening (as called) a Mr. Kim & saw his collection of Stormed bird, which was shown me by his daughter, Mr. K. being out. He had about 80 among them a gallinula galata & Ostyp Virginians which we are performing now formerly studied on the island but were after- natured by a severe winter some years back; Whether the gallinula was shot him or not or could not ascertain at first on calling on him again if possible.
