112 Feb. 1874 1874 Feb. 16 Middlesex County, Mass. Took a tramp of a few miles Through that old haunt of mine, Shot six Pigeons Patrapa getting fairly good specimens; they are universally abundant this winter. I. adsum over all over the city and numbers invaded the cedar tree to feed on the berries, they must I think, trouble the Apples but on this first arrival preferring the ciders while this berries last. Besides this usual gee-goo, they utter while perched a low liquid note of two or three or syllables. Saw several darting out after Snow flakes and catching them adroitly a-la-sheather (also see note winter of 1867 or 8). Seems seem to be greater in numbers & are more noisy & restless: altogether the first scene of the great Panorama Spring may be said to have opened Feb. 17 Sawind today two Hinga maritima shot on Grand Menan N. B. Jan 25 or thereabouts. They were all very fat - this Stomachs I found crammed with hard substances, gravel, fragments of broken shells &c. but no soft food though it might have been eliminated by their- position which had already well adream. Four Hiniola manchata, five Parns others, a Pigeon Patrapa (o) & fin birds made up the contents of the box.
