1875 September 2 - ,18 January. On the way back B. & another friend put me out of life and took me to a good double lock of merchandise from the upper pond and I made a shot at a bird, but missed it. The wind was one mile an hour and I was in a different place. A few miles down the river we saw a large flock of ducks flying towards us. M.P. & I were close behind them when they turned to fly back into the water. The next morning we found a great many more geese than usual on the marsh west of the house. The geese seemed very much pleased with their food and nearly all flew away. It was almost noon when we started off again for some shooting along the river bank. We had not gone far before we came upon a large flock of ducks feeding near the water's edge. They were all very tame and allowed us to approach quite close without frightening them. The geese also seemed quite contented with their meal and did not fly away until we moved further on. We spent all day hunting and cleaning. Sunday, September 31st was cloudy and chilly with wind from the west. We started down to the mouth of the river with B. & his wife who had been visiting us during our stay there. They were very much pleased with the outing and seemed quite happy with the whole trip. We returned home in good spirits after a successful day of hunting.
