Laguna las Flores Grande
Rio Salado at Puente Romero, 424 Km SW of San Miguel
del Monte, Pro. del Monte, Pcia de Buenos Aires,
Argentina
Sept 15
cont'd
This side of the marsh has a much more gradual slope,
a much sparser + shorter vegetation, + as arcult - there
are several places which approach being mudflats.
About 450M W of the road, near the SW most part
of the border we found a flock of N52 [illegible] small
shorebirds: there were 52 altogether, at least 9
Bairds, 1 Zonibyx, 8 W phalarope, and the
rest - perhaps 50 or so, Wumped. The flock moved
together, both along the edge on foot, + when it flew.
We stayed there for N20 minute working on distinction
between WE + B, + then went on to the point where
the Rio enters the marsh, beyond which we could not
pass. From there we could see a large expanse of short
vegetation in water - open water - mud (very little)
mixed habitat. 1 flock of N25 WR + Baird (both species
present but absolute count or not? not estimable.) Also
1 Negro (G-or L?) foraging near a G Plover (?). 2 separate
flocks of Stilt Sandpipers, one of 13, the other 5.
Many BNSTilts, a few H Godwits. (We saw several
large Trolley + G-(up to 32) individuals in one) along the
S. shore on the way to the point). Other things
of interest will be summarized by a list from Maurice at
the end of the trip. We did see here, however, a
pair of great grebes w/3 young ~ several weeks old.
This means that the breeding season is along
