Laguna las Flores Grande
Rio Salado at Puente Romero, 27 km SW of San Miguel
del Monte by road, Partido del Monte, Provincia de Buenos
Aires, Argentina
Sept 15
Arrived at marsh just east of bridge (Puente Romero)
around 1000 w/ Lota, M.A.E. Rumboll, + Jorge Rodriguez Mata
There had been a heavy frost the previous night, clear, this
with or morning it was clear, wind from NE (15-20 mph),
+ cool - temp in 50°F's. We circled the marsh by
car 1st to the north + then back around to the south,
both times heading west from the bridge. On the south
the Rio + the marsh are both salt. There is some
flood marsh starting up in this, the spring, but much
of it is a low dead grass, open water, or fairly
empty salt flat (upon closer examining the
flat even found to be sparsely covered by a grazed stubble.
The water line has obviously been much higher +
most of the land that is within 30 yds of water
is muddy enough to be slipping to walk or drive on,
even tho there is a powder on the plants - dust because of
the lack of recent rain. We went from the north
side of the bridge out west along the N shore for
~2 km until stopped by a fence. Only shorebirds
seen 2 flocks of Hudsonian godwits, and many
BW Stilt (of course lapwings). This shore had no
exposed mud to speak of, with the water running
up to just into a thick grass ~8" high. We then
returned + went along the S edge out to the point
where the Rio Salado flows towards the marsh.
