JPMyers 1943 Journal Trans-chaco road, Km 465 - 300 NW of Villa Hayes by Dept Bogueron, Paraguay 1pm Sept 3 contd at km 365, a few hundred meters from where I had collected a solitary on Sept 7. They were not feeding, perched but just sitting on the mud a few feet inches Got 2 w/one shot. The area around 365 was a large (at least 1km in diameter) open field with water visible only by road. Saw several small groups of other birds flying nearby. Continued on to Km 320 where we turned in to Juan Zalazar to look at some ponds Wayne had said had birds. Less than 1 km from trans chaco (south toward headquarters) The driveway goes between to large medium sized ponds, bounded by mud + dried mud, ~200' long + 100' deep with more water on the other side of the dried flat mud (~200' acres), the other pond bordered by vegetation. On the former pond it's muddy and spew) over onto the pond behind (east) of it, was a stock of 17 golden plovers + 2 or 3 small semi-palm- like plover (positive ID pending collection). Watched for a few minutes + saw about to collect when 2 buff- brained sandpipers flew into the edge of the pond. Collected both of them. [illegible] Returned to line camp + spent evening stuffing birds (0130) Evening was even warmer than the previous night, with insects remaining active throughout.
