Took following pictures along S. side of Canton:- Roll 17:1 S.W. point and W. rim of Canton, looking N. from rigging of "France." Roll 17:2 Looking NNE at about middle of lagoon, with the Tournefortia patches on the opposite side of the lagoon in distance. Roll 17:3 Looking N.N.E. opposite Scaevola thicket. Roll 17:4 Activities of deck of schooner, foreward, taken from main mast rigging. Roll 17:5 Looking N.N.W. across lagoon from oppoiste S.W. point. Roll 17:6 Capt. Stenbeck, taken on his 59th birthday. Tuesday, March 18, 1924. Steering S.E. during the night with the current and set carrying us directly toward Birnie's I. Went over on other tack at midnight, starting the engine. No sign of land at 6 A.M. Position at 7:35 Lat. about 3° 12', Long. 171° 16'. 14 miles S.W. by W. of Enderbury. Noon position Lat. S. 3° 12'. Long. 171° 02' W. - current = 171° 08'. Enderbury sighted at 10:30. Ashore at 3 P.M., landing without mishap on W. coast opposite a large mound (probably of guano). Kou trees, several clumps near S. coconut patch, one about hill of guano and a few isolated trees.
