(174) around the northern extremity of Kiriwine Is., which is Bomatm Pt. Kiriwine, the main island of the Trobriands lies at approx. 151° W and 8° S. It is over 40 miles long but not over 15 miles wide any where. We shall spend a few days first at Kailema Is., just four miles west of the main island. There is no high land in the Trobriand group. All the islands are coral and indicate similar atoll origin. Winds light from N and NW. Started the engine in the early morning after the day's beating.
