June 14 I took the left while the rest continued on the right and direct route to go ahead. We went in a S W erly direction across the plateau looking for pigs. We crossed two or three swampy places from its southern edge we got a good view of it at a glide. We then turned North and followed its rolling ridge. Dogs when about 1/2 way to go while I shot at, at long distance a brown animal flying away & miss. I got into camp about 11:00. The current drifted in till about 10 p.m. The rest of the day was spent in making camp & in changing sentries. We could only give them short rests because did not show up. Also a number left before being paid and the police man gave us their names. June 15, 1933 We slept until about 10:00 discussed the arrangements of the camp. I then took the rifle & the policeman and as word came that Rand was arriving I went down the trail about 100 meters and then turned West across the plateau following its ridges around in a circle to the bluff of the Ewoleni col. I saw nothing except one or two foot signs. I returned to camp about noon and found Brown & Rand counting ziplines. The Kiwi's returned about noon to the last shelter. The afternoon was spent about camp. The day was fine & clear. Last night there was a heavy frost & there was ice on several of the ponds. At 3:00 am, the thermometer read -7 C. June 14, (193) I set out 26 traps along the edge of the forest above camp and in the grassland. The rest of the day was spent in fixing camp. June 17-19, 1933 I caught a number of rats that seem to show a lot of variation but as far as I am susceptible to one species. I set the remaining nine traps out in the woods below camp. The weather during this time was poor with lots of mist although it only rained once day. June 20, 1933 I caught four rats all the same species and then went pig hunting.
