I returned slowly to the saddle as Mt. Safa was in the mist and came down a rather poor motor trail to the main road. About two thirty a native brought an umbrella and it took me all the rest of the evening to skin and sew up the leg which had to be split off and on to rain about three and continued until just before supper. It continued to be quite misty all the rest of the evening. We heard a strange noise back of camp and I took the light and succeeded in catching for a moment only two large reddish eyes which were quite bright. May 17, 1933 Spent the entire day in camp. Brother Deandron came through about ten on his way to Omong. Freig's Middleton's traps and a letter from Adomson with bad news, "Blair" had gone home and had to be left at Mafule. After lunch a boy arrived with two letters and some flowers from Middleton who had just gotten back to Omong from his trip to Albert-Edward saying that he would be up to see us tomorrow. One native brought in a Pseudonus which took me all afternoon to skin and then I did not have time to make it up. May 18, 1933 In the morning I wasted around working on the tracing of the map of the valley which had forwarded from Middleton and trying getting on his traps until Brother Deandron came along on his return to Mave for more supplies for the mission. I learned from him that Middleton would not be along so I went up the ridge along the old motor trail setting a trap when I returned I found Middleton waiting. We spent the rest of the day all about this discussing Albert Edward. He spent four days on foot only two of which he could see anything at all, the rest of the time it was mostly fog cold. Minimum temperature 5° at evening. He left Urusei next house by lamp light at 4:30 and went to its last village Ivale where he stopped to kill a pig from there and continued on up the ridge passing Chongham old Camp just above the forest and across the esc where his milk came as it was threatening to rain.
