hint and I saw that it was a smallist grey brown bat
with large pointed ears. I backed off a little way and shot
evidently blowing it off the trail and lost for over.

I went out shooting in the morning and succeeded in getting
a few new species to his collection. In the afternoon while
I was out a native brought in a Phalanger, the small species
for which I gave him a small glass of rye. I spent the
afternoon skinning it. As this was no advantage, it took
rather long and it was not possible to get all the fat off.

I went with Rand to see the Bower bird's down-ground.
The first was rather small and did not show
much sign of recent use. The second was some
what fresh, while the second gave clearly in me as
some scars that Rand had put in the race track were
removed. The race track was an oval of moss 800 x 650m
with a brush or sticks in the center around which small sticks
had been fast nailed to a height of 45cm, up to
the height of its first ½ way of its sticks were broken off
evenly to form a circle. After that they are rather rough.
I continued on the native trail to Ksaddle on the other
side when I went down to the main road or trail.
about 11 o'clock I went back up to photograph the Bower
and I saw the pair of birds feeding about 15 meters away
of the leaf covered hill side. In the afternoon I was at
replacing the broken bands to my large knife. On

I went up the ridge by the native trail. It climbs
at first quite steep and then comes up and down on
top of different covered knapridged full, then steeply
down to the saddle I saw few birds a couple of long tailed
parrots some fairly large bird that was now fairly recently
a squirrel and a broad billed fly-catcher which I shot; a
cotho strike while I went to places with the box and several
friendly fly catchers. I then climbed the first hill which was
very steep. I shot of large pigeon on the bit he dropped into
a mess of mud and I could not find it. On could get
a fine view of the main range when there were no
clouds I could only see what a thing is but Victoria
