birds. I shot a Gallinule, it flew from the same place I had
seen it for the past four or five days. I looked for a nest
but found none though Ramsay says it is a breeder.
After lunch it clouded & about 3 it came on to rain
heavier than it has done before. My road downwards
from Kongeviw Kruzi nam (ALA) enters at first at the crest of
the ridge by camp & goes down a little to the stream where our
water is obtained then along around a point by another smaller
stream then passing below a grass bald get come out onto
the large grass sides down which we went to the river then
it goes back into the forest to cross another stream before
deming around the last slope that is in grass the bald
through a small patch of timber to the follow along the
flow of the main range. Along this section there seems to
be mostly second growth with a few large fragarious
trees also on large slide and on that has come down to
the road. Right at enters a tall fact easy of access it
is easy to get about in, as it is level (fairly) and few vines.
The ground cover is leaves with scrubby oaklet to a
height of 20 or 30 cm., through this it descends for some
distance when it come out & descend through a forest conteng
a lot of second growth & natural plants from bananas
to the Lake Creek which is probably a short hour of study
walking from camp. Beyond I have only been a short way
as the trail becomes muddy it is along a steep hillside
with considerable second growth.
October 19, 1935
A gray dull morning with rain all afternoon.
I caught a rat in the net on the grass spur. While
sitting talking to Frank by the large leg of the stretcher by
the slide the Kiwis carriers arrived so I went on & finish
dinner the remaining cups then returned to see food.
The afternoon was spent in opening the one rat writing
to Bodanson and in getting ready the Kiwis trailer.

The Kiwis got away some time after seven
and I went up and called on the musicians and
got a pomette & coffee. They occupied the entire morning
which was cloudy with a light shower around mid
