the old park shelter 250'4 corrected 2479. I came down the trail to
the point instead of going along to the saddle as I wanted to get
some photos of D E from the side. The going was good until
we struck the section that runs along the south side of the ridge
where for a half hour the going was all mud & water very trying
shortly on arriving at the saddle where the road crosses to go back
gain we could see the unfinished new road that I am going to
follow the north slope as though steps it is dry. Shortly
after I caught up with Rand & Bravo who were trying to chain
Dubug's horse which was traveling on its own had to tow him
back but they did not succeed for he ran ahead a little
time then turned & charged past me. We continued on
arriving about 11:00 at Maw which is about half way to
Mondo from Caga. The altitude when I came was
2258 corrected 225 meters. We did not finish lunch till
almost lunch 1:00 PM after which we all went out & got
out & shot traps for as been lying in fog the rain with
which had cleared up in the next. After which I examined the
Pygmyote with a got in the morning. After supper it cleared & sky
trees came out so I went shooting down the road toward
Mondo going about 21 minute walking time. On the way out
I saw nothing except species of which there were a great number
counting as many as 17 more than one and also bats of which
there was usually one in the light most all the time both
coming & going. Shortly after I started back I caught the
eyes of some animal that shows very large & bright larger
than any eye I had seen so far. I shot at it and it disappeared.
When I was loading I caught the gleam of another at which
I promptly shot not having moved my position.
As the trees were in a thickset of twisting bamboo I did not
look for them but marked the place. A little guy Chalange
scuttled across the road and up to bank I shot it when it
gained its bush unfortunately blowing a good hole in his side
unfortunately I had not noticed that he was going up a small tree
as I could have charged shells. It illustrates the tenacity of
life of the Chalango as it was there 0.4 minutes before he died
down with the scraps overcame several. Just after arriving
at Maw I shot another animal which got his tail caught around
something and did not come closer (Note 1)
