Beaver 1967 Alaska Journal 42 10 July (cont.) 1330 Dr. Littelba and I left for the Black Ridge micro met sampling area. On the way, a Band's Sandpiper flew up and gave the distraction signal. We climbed out of the vessel to investigate and Dr. Litellou spotted a young Band's about 15' from the road. We caught it and I photographed it several times. The way it walked indicated that it was very recently hatched. We continued onto the plot and set up a transect line. (See digtars Study) we sampled this and on line II - we found a different species of troup'd. It is a large gray-brown species. We also found two of these copulating (one of course!) We left at 1630 for the lab. I'm very pleased with the transect method and I plan to repeat it a few more times at least before the program ends. Weather cloudy - slight wind from NE. 38-39°F. 11 July Spent the A.M. doing rod samples. Dr. Littelba volunteered to do Bone study birds so that will help out here. Tomorrow is the day to change them, so they'll have to be done by then. 1400 Went out with forep Dr. Littelba to help set femming lines # 102 - 9 x 10. On the way, we saw 3 Hudsonian Gulls near micro met. (See pp. account). We set traps and then downed some tendra flowers at lines 4x10.
