Beaver 1967 Alaska Journal 30 28 Time (cont.) 1:45 and 1:55. Tom and I returned at 11:25. 1300 I worked on samples again until 15:15 and then Dr. Pitelka and I went into the drum area to see if the "Buffy's" could be photographed. Dr. Pitelka was planning to collect one or two. I kept records of the Baird's incubating birds for the study. I walked to the stream on the barrel area next to family Logan, but saw only 1 prop buff-breasted S while Dr. Pitelka stayed with and watched while I went on to try and locate some activity. I saw no more Buffy's at all. I checked the lines -- rather the Baird's nest on the east side of the seligman pine and its way back in. At our usual evening bar, I gave a very brief and incomplete resume of my plans for the capture work and also on what little data found thus far. Dr. Pitelka was content with the ideas and work although he stressed again the need to work with chironomids as well as Tipulidae which I feel is an important since chironomids are so numerous in the samples. To overlook them would be passing up a chance to examine in more detail this confusing(?) group found near Barrow. There may be much less confusion in the taxonomy of the group than presently held.
