Beaver 1967 Alaska Journal 26 27 June 0800 I arrived at the lab. and started on sample # 24 (see Diptera study). I finished this sample and then made ready to help T. Carter pick up his learning trap lines # 9 and 10. Dr. Pitelka drove us to the area. On the way, we picked up many Cowl girl) and dropped her off near line 9 & 10. Tom and I picked up the lines. We saw a Buff-breasted Sandpiper on line 9en and it ran in front of us. It went to displays on the line. The last trap of line 10 had a g Longspur in it. Line 9 had 4 learnings in it. We returned after picking up line 9. 10/15 I started on sample #25 (see Diptera Study) and went through the rensing of the pond edge series. Next is #29-36-the rough series. Dr. Pitelka mentioned that he and the others would like to hear my plans and present accomplishments of the diptera study this afternoon sometime. I'm still on shaky ground about many aspects of the study-particularly concerning the method of approach ie. sampling technique. My plans now, and I will certainly expand them as I go, are to 1. Determine the densities- or probably a better term is abundances of each species of tipulid - L. lemmavi, L. gracilistyla.
