Beaver 1967 Diptera Study 93 29 July 8 soil samples collected from central marsh. grocery area. 1st check. 2nd check. 2 Brioncera g. lawae 3 P. homai 1 - 27mm. 1-14mm. 1-20mm. 2-10mm. 9 P. homai 3rd check - 4 August. 1-15mm. 4 x P. hannai 4-12mm. 6 mm, 15mm, 10mm, 3-10mm. 14 mm. 1-9mm. Sample discarded; see below. Steve and I decided that soil samples will be replaced in the Berlese funnels once every 6 days. This amount of time will dry the samples completely, cause everything that will emerge to do so or dye in the soil. He wanted some from pool edge so 8 of the 16 taken from central marsh were discarded. Note: Hand picked 4 August: found 4 P. hannai larvae - 16mm, 12mm, 11mm, 9mm. = 80% efficiency (16/20) with berlesee extraction.
