RIBBLE, D.D. 1988 JOURNAL 27 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. March 1 Arrived back at Hastings today around 1300hrs. Skies are cloudy, it's cool (low 50's), and it has obviously rained over the past few days. I set out & bunted traps on Grid WR from 1430 to 1700hrs. ~~ Due to the cool & damp weather I put a wadded up paper towel in all traps - The top half of the grid are mostly covered with wooden slats, but there aren't any slats at stations on the bottom half. I also put out 4 Nebraska trapboxes (2 traps per box) at stations 1,1; 13,10; 14,12; and 15,14. From 1700 to 1810h I reset the drift fences on grid RC and MC. On the drift fence west of RC I only set the traps every 5m. Finished just in front of darkness. It sprinkled lightly through the evening. March 2. 0640 h - out checking drift fence traps on MC. It's mostly clear, temp[illegible] upper 40's. Started checking GR10 WR traps by 0800h. Caught 2 new P. californicus on the grid and used them along with #1929 from RC drift fence (see app A-ct) at the truck and released them at their capture sites in good shape. Returned to lab around 1030h to spin down blood. Summary of results on GRID WR: P. californicus 8 captures (2new) P. tenui 9 " (lines) P. corfii 2 " (2new) Perognathus 1 " N. fuscipes 4 " (1new) TOTAL 24 " (1new) Spent the rest of the am chopping weed. Today was clear and sunny, high in the low 60's. Talked to J. Griffin, and he said it rained about 1-5 inches the past week while I was gone.
