RIBBLE D.D. 1989 JOURNALS 20 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Feb 6 Finished checking all traps by 2300hrs and radio-tracked #1123 (see spotted). Headed home by 2315hrs. Feb 7 Drifters-out checking traps on MC drift fences. It's clear, calm, warmer than previous mornings. Had 2 captures on MC drift fence. Picked up all folding Shermans and cleaned out all non-folding Shermans on RC as I checked traps. Finished by 0915hrs and headed home. Summary of results on RC: | | (a) (pm) | Flows | #ind. | |---|---|---|---| | P.californicus | 16 | 5 | 9 | | P.boylei | 18 | 16(2new) | 26 | | Microtus | 1 | 1(new) | 2 | | N.fuscipes | 0 | 2 | 2 | | R.megalotis | 1 | 1 | 2 | | Perognathus | 2 | 2 | 3 | | TOTAL | 28 | 27 | 44 | Spent the rest of the morning and afternoon taking care of paperwork and cleaning traps. Reset RC drift fence traps and traps west of RC from 1530 to 1600hrs. I added 4 more stations to the transect west of RC @ 1,5; 2,5; 5,0(along the stream); and 4,10. I also set station 5,8 on the grid. All of these traps are in attempt to catch #1123 & 1967. From 1615 to 1700 hrs I re-set trap on MC drift fences plus 14 stations in the SW corner of the grid to try and catch 1976and 1023. 8of those stations are ~10 m away from the edge of the grid (2 west, and 6 south). Today was another gorgeous day - high in the 60's 2130hrs-out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, low 50's, new moon yet.
