BIBBLE, D.O. 1988 Journal 19 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Feb 5 (cont) Reset RC traps early today (1530-1600hrs) to make it back by dark for telemetry. Reset MC drift fence traps from 1415 to 1630hrs. Today was another warm, clear day 1800hrs - out on RC for telemetry work. It isn't dark yet, can work w/out flashlights. But it won't be long - - - dark by 1830hrs. Heard first traps close shut around 1830hrs. (See telemetry Data for results) At 2010 hrs I headed in for some tea - it's cold tonight. 2120hrs - back out on the grid for telemetry and to clock traps. The moon is just beginning to rise. At 2145hrs I checked the drift fence west of RC. At 2215 I started to clock grid traps. I was interrupted by Pat Kelly & company, so I didn't finish until 2350 hrs and headed home. Feb 6 0700hrs - out checking traps on MC. Clear, calm, and cold. Nothing captured on MC drift fences. Finished checking traps on RC at 0840hrs and looked for radio animals before returning to lab to work 2 new P.californicus . Summary of results: P.californicus 4 (new) 5 (new) 9 P.boesii 19 (new) 15 25 Microtus 1 (new) - 1 Peromyscus 2 3 3 N.fuscipes 1 1 2 TOTAL 27 24 39ind. Today was sunny, clear, and warm. Spent the afternoon working on paperwork. I reset all traps on RC and released 2 P.californicus caged from 1530 to 1630hrs. I also set 6 additional traps # (2at #1423 west xto; 2 @ 4,5; and 2 @ 4le) to try and catch #1970 #. Reset MC drift fence traps around 1700hrs. 2130hrs - out checking traps on RC. It's clear, calm, and cold. Moon hasn't risen yet. Moon rose around 2230hrs.
