Late this afternoon (1400h) the snow turned to drizzle. 2130h - out checking traps on MC. It's overcast, raining off & on, low 40s Again, animal results - 2 Pt, 1 Pb, and 3 Perognathus. Finished by 1900h. Dec 16 0700h - out checking traps on MC. It's overcast, low 40s. It's not raining, but the ground and vegetation are all wet! Finished by 0800h, checked the whole trap (nothing), and returned to the lab to collect tissues from a new F on MC drift fence. Summary of results on MC: P. californicus 15 (pm) 14(hrs) total P. tenuis P. perognathus P. maniculatus P. boylii TOTAL 0 2 2 2 5 5 3 2 3 0 1 (new) 1 1 4 5 6 14 16 Released the new F around 1800h; this animal in good shape. Spent the rest of the am counting buckeyes, etc on Grid MC (see next day journal). Shies cleared some & Chen's Ridge is covered with snow, plus some snow is visible on the Arnold. Spent the afternoon working on data. Reset all grid MC traps from 1530-1630h. Checked setup on WP, then opened up perognathus on Grid RC drift fence traps and picked up all folding Sherman traps just as it was getting dark. Stayed partly cloudy all afternoon and cool (40s). Looks like more rain tonight. 2130h - mostly cloudy, low 40s. Moon is half full and bright when shining. Only 3 animals tonight (2 Pt, 1 Perognathus) - this is ridiculous. I set 2 additional stations tonight - St 11.5 & 11.6 with folding Shermans. Trying to catch another P. californicus. Finished by 2210h & headed home.
