BIBLIO D.O. 1988 Journal 121 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif Dec 7. 0650h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, low 40s. Started checking RC drift fence traps by 0730h. Capture success less than 50% on west fence this am. Started checking traps on WZ by 0830h. Fewer traps (16) closed by R. hiscipes this am on the grid - Finished checking all traps by 1015h and returned to lab to prepare 2 mortalities. Summary of results on WZ-R.californicus: 5 captures P. truei : 18 " (3 new) N. hiscipes : 13 " (new) Perognathus : 7 " (1 new) TOTAL : 43 capt (4 new) Today was breezy and cooler than previous few days (see temp data). I reset GRID WZ traps from 1430 to 1600h - I measured depths on all source trees as I reset traps. Reset all drift fence traps from 16-1700h. Dec 8 0650h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, low 40s. Started checking RC drift fence traps by 0730h. Caught 9 animals on the west fence which is 50% of the traps, but 10 traps were closed with no animal - probably by Neotoma. Started checking traps on WZ by 0930h. 17 traps closed w/no mouse this am, several were turned over. Finished by 1815h and then moved the way/fan thermometer to the NE side of the tree at its location to get it out of the sun. Returned to lab to prepare 2 Perognathus mortalities. Summary of results on WZ: P.californicus 5 captures P. truei - 19 (2 new) N. hiscipes - 9 P. berthii - 2 (Myelopogon) site expanded Perognathus - 5 (2 mortalities) 40 capt (2 new)
