P. californicus 5 4 (2 new) 7 P. gonfii 2 3 3 P. truei 7 6 9 TOTAL 14 13 19 Returned to lab with 2 new P. californicus from MC and collected tissues. The younger one #158 went under the metacarpal head. I didn't release the two at their capture points until 1300hrs, amidst a constant drizzle. Headed home for Berkeley afterwards. Jan 21 Returned to Nastings today around 1400hrs. Skies are clear and it's quite warm (60°). It apparently rained heavily while I was gone - many washout gullies on dirt roads. Also, Finch Creek (borders Carmel Valley Rd.) is finally running again. Set traps on RC drift fences from 1515 to 1600hrs. Put traps every 5m on drift fence west of Grid RC. Set traps on MC drift fences from 1615 to 1700hrs. The fence west of MC has some gaps between the fence bottom and the soil at the south end. Spread some dirt out to try and cover those. I found some fresh S. scopa sign near (within 5m) the MC west fence. The sun is setting now around 1715hrs, and it is not dark until ~1800hrs. Jan 22. 0730hrs - Out checking drift fences. It's clear, calm, low 40's light frost in windows. Caught a new P. californicus and lactating P. californicus on RC drift fences (see spp Acct). Returned to lab around 0900hrs to collect tissues from new animal.
