Bibble D.O. 1980 Journals 120 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif Dec 5 Reset all WR traps from 1530 to 1645h. (Cont) Dec 6 0645h - Out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, mid 40's. Started checking traps on RC by 0730h. On the west drift fence had annulals in 15/25 traps (success = 60%), so I should add more traps The east fence is adequate (success - 37%). Started checking traps on WR by 0830h. Again, generally good results. 23 traps (18%) were closed with no animal. Most if not all of these looked like Neotoma was responsible. Finished checking traps by 1015h. Summary of results on WR: P. californicus : 7 captures P. tenui : 12 " (new) N. fascipes : 11 " P. boylii : 2 " P. maniculatus : 1 " (new) Peognathus : 6 " TOTAL : 39 captures (2 new) I spent this afternoon counting buckeyes and Laurel nuts on grid WR to look at variation in production across (see next page) grids and maybe between years. Reset WR traps from 15-1600h, adding 4 more National traps. The maximum thermometer on WR does not seem to be recording accurately - the min't max were both considerably different than the hygograph. There might have been a bubble in the thermometer, so I vigorously shook it out. Also, the location might be in direct sunlight - check it out ! Reset RC & MC drift fence traps from 16-1700h. Added 13 folding Shermans to the RC west fence, bringing total traps on that fence to 38.
