ZIEGLER, D.D. 1988 Journal- 118 Hasting Reservation, Monkey Co., Calif Nov 23 0545h - Out checking traps on MC. It's cloudy, low 50's, and Dark! it has rained during the night. Picked up traps, etc as I checked traps this am. Caught another Urocyon in the cage trap at 10,5 on grid MC. Finished checking all MC traps by [illegible] and proceeded to check RC drift fence traps. It was raining hard by the time I started checking RC traps - I got soaked. Returned to the cabin to pack up by 090h Summary of results on MC (both am & pm) - P. californicus - 3 captures P. boylii - 7 captures (5 ind) P. truei - 4 " (3 ind) Psopachus - 1 " Total - 15 captures (12 ind) Left for Bevillely around 1030h - I released the Urocyon on the Laurel Grade RD on my way back. Dec 4 Arrived back down at Hastings around 1400h under clear skies, low 70's. Vegetation looks dramatically different since I was last here - Salix, cottonwoods, sycamores, blue oaks, and the locust by the cabin are all in fall colors and losing their leaves. The hills are beginning to take on green tints, and closer inspection reveals new growth of grasses and forbs. Finally, Shrews seem to be especially active. I set out and baited traps on grid WZ this afternoon from 15 - 1700h. There are "backhoes" (newly chopped) all over the grid, but virtually no Laurel nuts. I also set out 8 National traps in shettas across the grid. It was almost dark by the time I finished WZ, so I didn't have time to set drift fence traps. There was no moon visible early in the evening (before I went)
