RUBBIS, D.O. 1986 Journal 102 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Sept 22 (cont) Dismal results - spent the rest of the morning washing clothes and analyzing capture data. - and afternoon. Went out to MC at 1600h to search for the lost trap. Found it ~ 20m south of the grid on the opposite slope (several habitat). There wasn't an animal inside, but it was full of Westoma scot. Perhaps the fox had a Westoma for dinner ... Reset all traps including the large live trap near B, F. Reset all RC drift fence traps around 1800h. 2120h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, mid-50's, moon is 3/4 full and overhead (very bright!). Caught another Urocyon in the large live trap. Checked all traps tonight - not many animals but few traps turned. Returned to cabin by 2210h with the Urocyon. Sept 23 0645h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, 50° Picked up traps as I checked them this am. A few traps (~4) were turned this morning, but this has been the best morning yet. Released the Urocyon back at the cabin (don't want to drive to release it; return, and then go back the same way). Started checking RC drift fence traps around 0900 and finished by 1000h. Ear-tagged Didelphis and caught a new S. californicus (#1421). I opened up all drift fence passageways and covered all pit crews thrown. Returned to lab to feed new P. californicus - Summary of results on MC: P. californicus 2 2 2 P. beufii 4 13 15 P. trui 2 4 5 Perognathus 2 3 4 TOTAL 10 22 2land. Packed up this am and headed for Big Sur by mid noon. Released #1421 at RC drift fence on my way out.
