RIBBLE, D.O. 1988 JOURNAL 98 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Sept 16 around 1030 and all RC traps from 1700 to 1830h. Sept 17 0640h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, 41dF. Started checking traps on RC by 0720h. Caught a Websteria (#1418) by the tail and it was barely alive, so I sacrificed it. Collected tail tips from 3 P. californicus. Returned to lab around 1030h to strip tail tips, and collect tissues from a new MC P. californicus, and prepare the Websteria mortality. Summary of results on RC: P. californicus: 11 captures D. boylii : 31 " (4new) Micratus : 4 " T. megablis : 1 " (new) N. fuscipes . 12" (1 mortality) Perognathus : 3 " TOTAL : 62 " (5new) An additional 30 animals on MC's RC drift fences - great results! Released the P. californicus (#1420) around 1130hrs on MC in good shape. Spent Hooftension relaxing with Melana. Today was warm (low 80s) and clear. Picked MC traps around 1030 and RC traps from 1700+1800hrs. Sept 18. 0645h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, 50F. Started checking traps on RC by 0730hrs. Picked up traps as I checked them. Clipped tail tips from 2 P. californicus. Also kept a torped P. boylii (#040) for recovery. Returned to lab to prep tail tips. Summary of results: P. californicus - 11 captures D. boylii - 32 " (2new) Micratus - 4 " N. fuscipes - 9 " Perognathus - 4 " TOTAL - 60 captures An additional 30 animals on MC's RC drift fences. Spent the rest of the day editing Galapagos slides with Mel. Today was warm (upper 80s) and extremely hazy - could barely see Poison Oak Hill from the cabin.
