[It didn't end up raining that much after all.] I checked drift fence traps and returned boards from under bridge back to RC. This morning I caught Q P. californicus #1195 again and redusted her order. She looks pregnant so it would be really good to catch her mate soon. This afternoon it started to rain again so I collected the traps along Roberson Creek. I cleaned them out and set them to dry in Dave's cabin. I set drift fence traps + the traps under the bridge. (Of course, as soon as I came in drenched from picking the traps up in the rain, the sky cleared...) 2300 h - no P. californicus under bridge -- perhaps should set more traps? June 7 0600 h - mid 30's here at Roberson Creek. Am checking drift fences and then will check on captive animals; fence move when Dave R. is due to return. This afternoon, we'll be going to the Evolution meeting at Airlom, if all goes as planned. I CAUGHT A SKUNK! A small spotted skunk was caught on RC west drift fence (W-3--in) this am! This near fat was caught in the trap. I managed to free him without causing too much of a stink... June 17 2230 h - Dave Laabs and I are heading out to check the traps of Madrone Canyon grid. The sky is clear and starry and the temperature is somewhere mid 60's or so. June 18 0000 h - At Roberson Creek to check drift fences. The sky is clear and the temp -- low 60's. Next I'll head out to MC to check drift fences and grid + traps. I will also pick up GRID traps there. Dave L. and I are eating their breakfast, took a nap and then headed to the coast to escape the intense heat. We returned at 1830 h so I could set the drift fence traps. June 19 0630 h - upper 50's with scattered clouds at Roberson Creek this am. I'm checking drift fence traps here and then will go to Madrone Canyon where I'll meet Dave L. He set some of the MC GRID traps yesterday evening so that he can take a closer look at P. trutii; to help figure out distinctions between those animals, and small P. californicus. We finished at 0930 h. I dusted a P. californicus (Q #1186 caught at 10, T) PURPLE -- it was in one of the traps that Dave L. set last night. Dave L. left at noon and took care of the captive animals. Then I set up transects about east of RC west drift fence ~50 meters and also west of MC east drift fence and east of MC west drift fence. These transects are being mapped in order to see if there are any P. californicus that we might be missing in the areas between the drift fences and the grids.
