We are going to check the drift fences first and then the grid. It's clear, calm, low60s, the moon is 1/2 full (waxing) and setting in the west. July 22 Finished by 0030h. The drift fence traps were ungood shape for the most part - apparently most of the closed traps occur early at sunrise. 0600h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, upper 50s. Started checking traps on RC by 0630h. Lot of woodrats! Finished by 0830h, went to UR to check temperature, and returned to lab. Summary of results on RC: P.californicus P.boylii N.fuscipes Microtus Perognathus S.audubonii TOTAL 22(Dm) 4 4 9 (1new) 1 0 1 (new) 19 (3new) 22(um) 7 14 16 (2new) 1 1 (1new) 0 39(3new) # nd 10 15 19 2 1 1 48 total Very few traps were closed with no animals - putting out so many National traps seems to make a big difference. Also, most of the traps that are closed by birds on the drift fences apparently occurs in the am, as few traps were closed when we checked them last night. Today we went to Alviso SCCC to swim - very nice! Reset MC drift fence traps around 1800h and all RC traps from 1820 to 1915h. 2240h - out checking traps on RC. It's clear, calm, low60s Moon is 1/2 full and in western skies. Finished by midnight and headed home
