ZIBBLE, D.O. 1988 Journal B7 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. July 14 (cont) Warm (upper 90s). We spent the afternoon shunning squirrels and working on the computer. I reset traps on MC drift fences around @ 1900h, and Ellie reset RC drift fence traps around 1930h. July 20 0605h- out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, upper 50s. Started checking RC traps by 0645h. Met up with Ellie and (saw a saw-whet owl at 5:35?). we spent the rest of the am finishing habitat on RC. Took humidity readings on all grids from 1230 to 1315h. Today was cooler than previous, high 90s. I spent the afternoon on the computer while Ellie set squirrel traps and cleaned out the captive animal cages. Caught 4 more Spermophilus today. Ellie reset all drift fence traps around 1900h this evening July 21 0600h- out checking traps on MC. It's partly cloudy, mid 50s. Started checking RC drift fence traps by 0630h. Only one animal, Peromyscus caught on the west drift fence - strang.... To turned to lab to pickup Ellie, and we started work on WD habitat. Finished 22 stations and took humidity readings on all 3 grids from 11-1200h. Today was partly cloudy, but still very hot (upper 90s). We took it easy this afternoon in anticipation of night work this evening. We set all traps on Grid RC from 17-1935h, then reset RC drift fences. We put 20 National traps across the grid at various stations. We put up an owl decoy (from W.Koenig) on the west drift fence to see if it would lure away any of the birds that were checking traps.
