RIBBLE, D.O. 1988 Journal 81 Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monterey Co, Calif July 11 (cont) been reading abnormally high, so we are going to switch thermonometers with RC. Finished checking all traps on MC by 0800hrs and proceeded to check RC drift fences, and take a humidity reading. 0940h - drove to WR to take humidity & temp reading. 0915h - weighed the babies. Returned to lab to blood two P.californicus (#1379) from MC. Summary of results on MC: P.californicus : 10 captures P.tueei : 1 capture P.baylil : 20 captures (5 new) Perognathus : 3 captures (new) N.fuscipes : 3 captures TOTAL : 37 captures (few) Good results on MC! Not many traps rolled or shut with no animals. Released #1379 at its capture site in good condition at 1115h. Today was clear, breezy, high in the mid 80s (cooler than previous days) From 1645 to 18175h I went from grid WR to RC to MC to take humidity reading. This seemed to work well. From 1730 to 1945hrs I used MC grid traps while Ellie set patched holes in the drift fences. From 1850 to 1930hrs we set a series of traps on Grid RC (roughly from 5,10 to 5,17 to 9,18 to 9,7) for a spot check on animals, and the RC drift fence traps. Finally, set 2 traps in each of the enclosures for a powder transfer experiment (see spreadsheet). 2300h - out checking traps on RC. It's clear, calm, no moon So closed all traps as we checked them. Finished by 2330h and returned to Ho barn to release females back into enclosures (see data on animals)
