Ribble, D.O. 1988 Journal 75 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. June 14 (heat) Ellie checked on the captive animals this am and I worked on my ASM presentation. Today was another hot one, low 90's. I worked on my ASM presentation all afternoon and Ellie went into town. We reset traps on MC from 1715 to 1800h and RC drift fence traps from 1915 to 1830h. 2230h - out checking traps on MC. It's clean, low 60's, no more. Finished by 2340h & headed home. June 15 Cloudy - out checking traps on RC. It's partly cloudy, a bit colder than yesterday. Started checking traps on MC around 0700h. Finished checking traps by 0845h and I returned to the lab to photograph some slides for my ASM talk and Ellie checked on the captive animals - At 1000h we bled 2 new animals (1 from MC, 1 from RC) in the lab. Summary of results on MC: P. californicus 4 captures 14 (new) P. huei 1 " D. boylii 8 " (new) N. fasciops 1 " TOTAL 14 " (new) 15 (am) 10 captures. (new) 13 6 20 3 " 35 " (3 new) 43 We released the new animals around 1130h in good shape. Today was partly cloudy in the am, clean in PM, but warm (low 90's). We worked on habitat measurements from 14-1800h this afternoon on 4210 MC. Finished all of 1200 WD and new 11 - truck the bitch for the rows! Reset traps on BMC from 18-1900hrs. Found a king snake in a trap at station 9,8; and a coil spermophidus in a trap at 5,5. I returned to the lab to prepare it (Cat#380) while Ellie reset RC drift fences. I gave a practice talk this PM and Ellie and I were great! Decided to go out early in the am, and not tonight.
