ZIBBLE, D.O. 1988 Journal 73 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. June 11 0550h - out checking traps on MC. It's foggy, mid 40s. Starting checking traps on WR by 0700h. Fog burned off by 0800h. Finished checking all traps by 0900h and bled new P. californicus (#1338) at truck. Returned to lab to spin blood and prepare Microtus mortality. Summary of results on WR: P. californicus: 10 captures (1new) D. tenei : 11 " (1new) P. boylii : 2 ' Microtus 2 " (2 new) R. megalotis : 1 " (1new?) P. peromyscus: 3 " (1new) N.uscipes : 12 " (5 new) TOTAL 41 " (1 new). Much better results with fewer traps turned than on Clocked in to capture animals before lunch and discovered that the recently caught grain is missing! Should set traps in the barn tonight. Today was cooler than yesterday, low 80s, and clear. Reset WR traps from 17-1800hrs and all drift fence traps from 1830 to 1900hrs. I also set 15 traps inside the barn for the escaped captive animals. As the sun set a huge fog cover set in, cooling temps down. June 12 0550h-out checking traps on MC drift fences - it's clear, calm, upper 40s. Had a new lactating ? on RC drift fence (# 1343) which I bled and clutched (scraped). Didn't start on WR until ~0800h. Picked up traps on WR after bleed 2 animals at truck and released them, and returned to lab ~1130h to spin down blood. Summary of results on WR: P.californicus: 12 capt (1new) P. tenei : 9 " (2new) N.uscipes : 10 " (3 new) P. boylii : 3 " Peromyscus: 3 " (0) TOTAL 37 captures (0new)
